Barbara Hawthorn, President and CEO of Barbara Hawthorn Interiors Ltd., has created and directed award-winning residential and commercial projects throughout the United States for over 30 years. She has been named one of the DC area’s best in numerous publications. In 2009, she was named “Hall of Fame Designer” by Home and Design Magazine. The National Association of Professional Women named Barbara 2011 Professional Woman of the Year. In 2018, she received the Fearless Woman Award from the Women’s Leadership Group of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
Barbara graduated from the Fieldston School in 1968, and Vassar College with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1971. She received a prestigious Ford Foundation Fellowship for a Masters of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1974. From 1974-1984 she worked on energy and environmental policy and was the first Director for Air and Water Quality Programs for the National Parks.
Dedicated to advancing educational opportunities for children, Barbara serves on The Women’s Leadership Group for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. She was the 2010 and 2011 Chair of the Host Committee for the Heart of America Foundation. She serves on the boards of GoodWeave International, and the McLean Project for the Arts. The Phillips Collection Museum has designated Barbara one of their “Ambassadors.” She is on the Advisory Board for In A Perfect World and is a member of CARE Global Leaders Network.
