Inaugural Benefit on September 18, 2014
AIFIC held its Inaugural Benefit on September 18, 2014 on the roof top of 601 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. More than 125 guests enjoyed the dramatic view of the Washington Mall while visiting with new and old friends.
The Host Committee included Merribel Ayers, Buffy Cafriz, David Carey, Mrs. Alexandra Villard De Borchgrave, Al Diaz and Angela Phillips Diaz, Farhad Jalinous, Juleanna Glover, Chris Griner, Bruce and Shelley Ross-Larson, Powell and Pamla Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nash, Peggy Parsons, Mario Peyrone – BCUBE Inc., Tony Podesta and Dario Zucchi.
Founders and Directors Maria Gliozzi, Anna Lawton and Elisabetta Ullmann welcomed the guests and introduced Laura Denise Bisogniero, wife of H.E. Ambassador of Italy.
Renato Miracco, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Italy and Chairman of the AIFIC Advisory Board, took the opportunity to share with the guests the AIFIC programs and projects to be supported by the proceeds from the Benefit, including the book award “The Bridge” and a Film Festival scheduled for later in the month.
During the evening a silent auction and a very exciting live auction were held with grand prizes for the winners. Auctioneer David Zahren of ABC Channel 7 News encouraged the crowd to raise their paddles in support of AIFIC.
The Items offered were very appreciated by the guests, and they included:
1. Attending the Palio di Siena, going back to the 16th century for the most spectacular horse race event in Siena, Italy (3 day stay) –
2 .Discovering Southeast Sicily and the unique World Heritage of Sicilian Baroque (5 day tour)
3.Trip to Venice: sleeping in the private rooms of the Giorgio Cini Foundation and enjoying its secret masterpiece collection (3 day stay)
4. A week in in the medieval village, Castagneto Carducci, Tuscany with a tour of the surrounding wineries.
